NJ ASK is Here!!!!

Parents and Students,
NJ ASK testing time is now!! Testing begins Monday, PLEASE do the following to ensure the best possible results: 1) Get a good nights rest. This is to ensure that you are alert and ready to perform at your best. 2) Eat a nutritious breakfast. You can eat at home or enjoy the Free breakfast provided by Quitman Street School everyday. 3) Arrive to school on time! All late students will be held in the Art room and will not be permitted to enter the classroom until the end of the test. 4) Do your best!!! I can not stress the importance of this test. It is the most important standardized test that you will take this year. GOOD LUCK!!

Fourth and FINAL marking period!!

As we end the third marking period this week and begin our last marking period of the school year let's reflect. Students did you always do your very best? Did you turn in all homework assignments? Did you spend an adequate amount of time reading at night? Are you getting proper rest? Are you focused on the NJASK test prep that is occuring daily in your classrooms? If so, you are on the right track to close the 2009-2010 school year off right!! If not, you have an oppurtunity to pick up and start on the right track to success! Good job and good luck!

Counting down for the NJASK!!!

Now that we are back from Spring Break please focus on preparing for the NJASK. In the classroom we have daily NJASK prep lessons in Literacy and Math. How you can help as the parents is to encourage your child to do his/her best on the test and stress the importance of it. Students please remember to get those basics such as memorizing the multiplication tables.

Vacation Packets

Hello Students and Parents,
We are quickly approaching our Spring Break. Parents please expect that your children will receive homework packets in Language Arts and Math. Students are to complete them in there entirety. Also, continue to practice the test taking strategies that we have been going over daily in the classroom over the break. Have a safe and wonderful Spring Break!!

NJASK Test Prep

Dear Parents,
We have just completed the Learnia Assessment Test. This test is important because it gives us a snap shot of what the children already know and what we need to focus on. This assessment is what drives our instruction. Please stress to your children how important doing their best on this type of test as well as the NJASK test is. NJASK testing will begin in May. We are currently focusing on test taking skills and strategies at least three times a week in the classroom.

Reading and Multiplication

Hello Parents and Students!
I just wanted to take this time to encourage you to read and practice the multiplication tables each and every night. Please take some extra time to incorporate it into your routine in addition to your usual homework assignments. It is very important that you read each night. Practice is what will make you perfect!!! The multiplication tables are an essential concept to being succesful in Math. Everything from this point on builds from the foundation of the multiplication tables. If you commit them to memory than you will be successful at applying them to other Mathematical concepts.
